What We Do
The Boys and Girls Club of the Northern Cheyenne Nation (BGCNCN) Best Beginnings Early Childhood Community Coalition was established in 2012, and is referred to as the Northern Cheyenne Best Beginnings Early Childhood Coalition by the State of Montana Early Childhood Coalition under the Department of Public Health & Human Services.
The BGCNCN Best Beginnings Early Childhood Coalition implemented the Family Spirit Program Model developed by John Hopkins Center for American Indian Health to promote maternal and early child health. The Family Spirit Program is for first-time moms or pregnant teenagers ranging from the ages 14 to 21. The Family Spirit Curriculum consists of 63 lessons taught over a 3-year period by a Home Visitor on a weekly basis to ensure healthy child development and high-quality early childhood learning for ages 0-3.
Also linking families to community services to address specific needs and upon graduation from the Family Spirit Program, then encourages the parent to enroll their child in a Northern Cheyenne Head Start program to achieve Kindergarten readiness.

The BGCNCN Best Beginnings Early Childhood Community Coalition meets the third Wednesday of each month at the Boys & Girls Club in Lame Deer, Montana, and develops other projects that benefit the people of the Northern Cheyenne Nation.
